Testimony of Facilitator: Christine Mackerness Senior Sister Paediatrics

Islamic Diversity Centre team presentation at the

Paediatric Ethics Study Day 3rd September 2008

Islamic Diversity Centre provided a thoroughly professional and interactive presentation.  The team were well prepared and had tailored their presentation to the requirements of the day rather than simply provide a generic talk about Islam; this was much appreciated as it focussed on medical issues that directly related to our care of Muslim patients.

The team were open to questioning and sensitive to the professionals’ challenges in openly discussing the needs of Muslim patients.

The Islamic Diversity Centre is certainly providing an invaluable service in providing these type of talks.  They will certainly be used again within the Trust and the Medical School.  The IDC provided an information pack that gave direction for patients and the scripture and teaching that supported these directions which I am sure we will use widely within the Children’s Directorate.  This has been passed on to the chaplaincy service and a copy held within each ward in the directorate.

The talk evaluated extremely well by the candidates.  All candidates rated the presentation as good (50%) or excellent (50%).  Comments included:

“Really enjoyed this talk.  Good to know about the resource of the IDC”

            “Excellent group very interesting”

“… I will cascade information to my unit.”

“Excellent”

Thank you for a fascinating and practical presentation.
